There are only a handful of cardinal rules in association management: 1) Don’t lie to your board. 2) Respect members’ time and money. 3) Never forget that members are your members, not your friends.
You’d think those are pretty easy to keep, but I’ve broken the last one a hundred times over. It’s very difficult to work so closely with people and develop a relationship that runs deeper than professional.
